Color Forecasting Report for FW10 of Marc Jacobs

Introduction

I'm going to present what I have analysed from MJ collections.
Let me briefly introduce MARC JACOBS this brand .
MJ is a American and he is a genius in designing.
He designs and makes his own brand with his own name Marc Jacobs.
Also, he also creates other lines like marc by marc jacobs or little marc jacobs.
However, I will mainly focus on the main line Marc Jacobs.
This is a ready-to-wear line as MJ think every woman can wear beautiful clothes very easily.
That means "READY-TO-WEAR". But the main point is that women can still be elegant .


Color Forecasting for MJ FW10 collection


The color family that I have forecasted are as follow:





By using the colors, MJ likes to use archromatic color scheme and also monochromatic color scheme. This two schemes always or almost appear in all MJ collections. Many examples can be found in any MJ collections.
Starting from FW06 , MJ tries to use more color schemes like complimentary and split complimentary color schemes. Althought it is still not so many, I believe that MJ wants to try more first and his favourite ones is still archromatic.
And in FW07, he starts to use analogic and triadic color schemes.
I believe that MJ will continue use archromatic and monochromatic color scheme as the main scheme. And he will try to use other scheme like analogic and complimentary color scheme as the minor ones.

Beside the color scheme, MJ also like to use different principles of colors.
After summarization, i can say that MJ always use harmony of color and also principle of order.
In every collection, we can find these two principles.
Also, principle of novelty can sometimes be found in MJ collection too.
These 3 principles are predicted to be appeared again in FW10.




Here,I will separate different parts to explain WHY and HOW I choose the above colors .


1) MJ' personality
-as MJ likes black,grey and white, he must still use these three colors in his coming collection.
In every collection, the proportion of one of them will be the dominance.
From my observation, the proportion of black and dark gray are usually more.
SO, black and dark gray have higher possibility.




2) color usually used in MJ collection
- just like what i have summarized and analysed in the last post, the primary colors including yellow, red and blue are always used by MJ.
So, in FW10, I believe that he will still use these 3 colors but of course in differnt values, saturation.

Also, what i have said that before , blue and purple are increasing in the whole collection.
So, I choose another value or chroma of blue color that haven't been used as MJ seldem repeat the same color.

Besides, we cannot forget green color as almost in every collection MJ will use green in one or some outfits. The main point is that it is only a few but it is still important and is a characteristic of MJ.Usually in teal or seagreen.

3) Economic situation
- as we all know starting from the end of 08, the economy of the whole world is not stable, especially in USA. That is the place that MJ stay at. It is believed that the economy should be a possible factor to influence the fashion industry.
Maybe some dull colors like dark colors will be used.
However , we can think from the other side, especially MJ is a person that has lots of ideas that other people cannot imagine, he may use some sharp colors to bring a more delighted feeling.
He always has lots of gimmicks.

Last but not least, why I choose bronze color? It is because in recent collection , MJ likes to use metalic colors like silver and gold. I believe that he will continue using metalic but not only silver and gold , also bronze can be one of the choice too. And it contains green . Maybe MJ uses it as a green color to match with other outfit. It is possible too!

4)the global color trend
- most of the designers will follow the color trend like in stylesight.cm or WGSN.
From what I have found, colors of MJ collections also match with the color trend.

this is the FW09 colors predicted by WGSN.
We can see that most of the colors are used in FW09 MJ collection too.




this is the SS08 colors from stylesight and again , these colors are appeared in MJ SS08 collection too.



5) American lifestyle
-No matter born, studying and opening company, life of MJ are all in New York, USA.
He is greatly influenced by this place. And MJ once said that he is usually inspired by his life and anythings happend nearby. So, American life must be a element in his collection.
It have been happend before like the recent collection FW09 is an example.



Conclusion


To conclude, the colors that I have forecasted including black, gray, white, pale yellow, dark red,crimson, medium blue, teal , mageta, dark orangered, violet, khaki and bronze.
And I forecasted colors by 5 factors above.

No matter the colors that i predicted are correct or not, it is a good experience to do this blog and this really helps me to know more about fashion , especially COLOR this magical thing.

Summary!!!

Summary and analysis of the color used in MJ collection SS06-FW09

From the above, we can clearly see what colors are used during 06-09's collections.
And here are some analysis from my own research.


1) MJ mostly uses the same hues in both SS and FW in each year.
But the shades, tint, tones , or value , chroma of the hues are always different.
E.G SS09 and FW09 , red , green, blue, yellow are used in different intensity, value and saturation

2) Colors/hues used in MJ collection are more less before 07.
We can see more hues , especially sharp and high chroma color , in the collection after07.
E.G In 07, we start to see lemon yellow color in MJ collections.

3) Almost in every year , metalic or electric colors can be found.
E.G SS07 has silver color , FW09 has golden color

4) MJ must use archoromatic color scheme in each collection.
This is also proved by MJ since he said the same message in a interview.
He likes to use black, grey and white.
Usually one is the dominance. , sometimes white , sometimes black or sometimes grey.
E.G White is the dominant color within archomatic color in SS07
Grey is the dominant color within archomatic color in FW06

5) MJ likes to use the primary color very much. (of course in differnt values ,tints. chroma....)
That means yellow, red and blue , especially blue and red.
Blue are using more and more in latest collections.
E.G All collections include primary color ( except FW06 doesn't have blue only)

6) Purple is also another colors MJ using more and more in latest collections.
E.G in SS08

7) Green is also used in every collection starting from FW06 . But the important point is that it is only one or a few outfit.
E.G all collections from FW06

Keep fit for what????????????????

So, he is using Achromatic color scheme!!!!!!!

She has red , yellow, blue, brown, green colors on her outlook.

SO, i can say she use Triadic Color Scheme (yellow, blue, red)

or Complimentary Color Scheme (red , green) !!!

MJ fall winter 09 analysis part 2

No matter which collection , MJ still keeps his style that Achromatic color scheme is used .
It is nearly25% of the whole collection.
Besides, over 50% are Monochromatic Color Scheme .

However, in this time, we can see that MJ uses more hues and sharp colors compared with previous F/W .
It includes some high value colors like yellow , red, pink , blue and purple.
Also, green is used everytime but it is a few only.

This one is a "Rainbow," a popular flavor, that consists of three different colors of syrup chosen usually for their color rather than their taste compatibility.
The ice is shaved finely so that the syrup colors are retained longer, providing for a better presentation.

MJ S/S 09 analysis part 3

In this collection,

Achromatic color scheme is mostly used. (near 40%)
Also, Emphasis of color like yellow and blue can usually be seen.
Only 3 are Monochromatic Color Scheme.


We can see that MJ uses three primary colours and also three secondary colours as the dominant colour.
He uses some electric color on most of the clothes.
Black, white, grey can always be seen and accessorized with yellow,blue and red.

Women not only demanded the right to vote but also took over traditional roles of men
There is also a connection to YSL's 1978 “Broadway Suit” collection and its references to Afro-American culture.


Black and dark color can give us sophisticated feeling and this can represent the status of women.
